Should You Buy Traffic?

When it comes to blogging, many people often wonder if spending a little money is worth it. There are tons of ways of advertising your blog on the internet. The question is…should you?

It Depends

I think the answer to this question really depends on your blog, niche, and overall goal. If you blog is a business blog devoted to promoting your products, then by all means start advertising. However, if your blog is a personal blog about your pet spider, you should really ask yourself if it is worth it.

Before advertising, you need to decide if the benefits are going to be greater than the cost of the ads. Calculate the amount you can expect to make from your advertisements. If you spend $200 in advertising and sell $500 worth of products, then you are doing a great job. At that point, you can continue to buy more and more advertising.

What Type Of Advertisements Are Good For Blogs?

There are literally tons of different ways of advertising on the web. Google Adwords is a big program, as well as companies like Adbrite. I have tested a few Google Adwords campaigns with this blog and saw some decent results. I was paying around 5 cents a click and received a few RSS subscribers and newsletter signups.

You can also purchase direct advertisements, such as banner ads and text links. The key is to find websites related to yours that are selling advertisements. This will ensure that everyone that see’s your advertisement is interested in the topic.

Personally, I think Google Adwords is a great way to promote your blog. Especially if you create ad campaigns for specific posts instead of your homepage. This will allow you to get cheaper and more targeted visitors.

Think Before You Buy

The real answer to the question, is think before you buy. Buying some traffic (in the form of advertisements) is a great way to spread the word about your blog. It is also a great way to jumpstart a new blog. Just make sure you do not go overboard and spend a ton of money that reaps you no rewards. Blogging takes time and spending a little money isn’t going to make your blog a success overnight.

Have you ever purchased ads for your blog?

Oh, please, please, please tell me how to get ads to WordPress. I can get them to my Verizon site but no matter what I do I can’t get them to either WP site. I want PopShops in particular, but I can’t even get Shareasale or CJ to my sites.

Yes, I did finish the course—great by the way—& I followed the “put it in the post”, I got the code from both PopShops and Shareasale. I get the code, I copy the code, I go to WP, obviously I am doing something wrong once I get to WP. I tried putting the code everywhere in both the ways to upload it. I’ve tried putting it in Media and in Pictures….can’t get a picture or the ad to show. Sometimes I get an underlined word that shows on the blog, sometimes I get the code showing. Sometimes only a word of the code. Is there a plug-in that I should be using?

It is a joy to read what you write & hear that you speak intelligently. It’s a talent few have these days.

Hey Lisa, Just sent you an email in regards to your advertisements. Depending on the type of code they are, they might need a bit of special care when inputting them (especially into posts/pages). Widgets are another place where you can try placing the ad code, just be sure to use a text widget.
